Several factors can affect the appearance of dark circles, but the most common factors are aging and insomnia. However, stress, genetics, a lot of time spent in front of the computer, dry skin or use of certain medicaments, excessive sun exposure and skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis play a big role in the appearance of these dark circles, as well.
Natural cures for dark circles under the eyes
There are several ingredients which you can use to get rid of these dark circles:
Almond oil:
Rich in vitamin E and besides being helpful with dark circles, it also has a positive influence on the skin around the eyes. Few drops are applied on the dark circles, avoiding the eyelashes so there is no eye contact. Leave it overnight and wash it off in the morning with cold water. Repeat this until the dark circles disappear.
Potato:
It is a great cure for dark circles under the eyes because it helps in the lowering of inflammation around the eyes. Cut few slices of potato and apply them on closed eyes. Leave it for 10 minutes and then remove them and wash off with warm water, and then dry the area gently, with a towel. Repeat until the dark circles disappear.
Cucumber:
This is a classic cure for dark circles due to its astringent properties. It also refreshes the eyes. Cut few slices of cold cucumber and apply it to closed eyes and leave it for 10 minutes. Then, wash off with warm water and repeat this process for a week.
Rosewater:
It refreshes and helps in the calming of tired eyes by toning the skin. Soak couple of cotton wads in it and apply it to closed eyes and leave it around 10 to 15 minutes. Repeat this for a week.
Cold application:
One of the usual and often used cures for dark circles under the eyes is cold application. Leave a spoon in the fridge for a couple of minutes until it cools off. Then, after a while, apply the spoon on the dark circles until it reaches the temperature of the skin and then remove it. This is a quick cure, but is not recommended for everyday use.
